Tourism Returns to Syria: Could the Pound Start Feeling the Impact?

Syria’s tourism sector is showing notable signs of recovery in 2026, with more than 3.5 million visitors recorded during the first half of the year, according to published tourism data.

This improvement does not mean the Syrian pound will strengthen immediately, but it opens an important economic channel: more travel activity, higher visitor spending, stronger demand for hotels, restaurants and transport, and broader opportunities for foreign currency inflows through visitors and expatriates.

For the exchange-rate market, tourism is not the only factor shaping the pound’s value. However, it can become a supportive force if the recovery continues alongside better services, stronger confidence and more stable remittance flows.

The return of visitors to Syria may be one of the small economic signals helping the market slowly regain momentum.
