Syrian Old Currency Exchange Deadline Ends: What Happens After July 30?

The deadline for exchanging old Syrian banknotes ends on July 30, 2026. Starting July 31, the old notes will lose their legal tender status and will no longer be valid for everyday payments or financial transactions.

According to the Central Bank of Syria, a separate withdrawal process will begin on July 31 and remain available for five years.

The withdrawal process will be handled exclusively by the Central Bank of Syria in Damascus. Applications must include at least 100 banknotes of any denomination. Once the request is reviewed and approved, the corresponding value will be transferred to a designated bank account in new Syrian pounds.

The Central Bank stated that the withdrawal process will not be subject to commissions, fees, taxes or other charges.

Citizens are advised to rely only on official instructions and avoid handing old banknotes to unauthorized individuals or intermediaries.
