Syria’s Baniyas port is back in focus after being used as a new route for transporting Iraqi fuel oil to international markets through the Mediterranean.
This does not mean an immediate improvement in the Syrian pound, but it sends an important economic signal: renewed logistics activity, more movement in transport and port-related services, and a potential role for Syria as a regional trade corridor in the energy sector.
From an economic perspective, regular port activity can gradually support transport, storage, services and fees, all of which may help revive market movement and create broader cash-flow channels.
For the Syrian pound, the real impact depends on continuity and scale. Still, the return of activity through Baniyas is a positive sign that parts of the economy are slowly moving again after years of contraction.
